The Rock, Chalfont St Giles

The Rock is a church with a difference.  We want people to feel at home with us, even if they've never been inside a church before.  We use a number of different presentational styles to ensure that there's something for everyone.  Please see the calendar  below to check what's coming up.  This is the kind of thing you can expect:

hTeaching Service.  During this service the meaning of a passage from The Bible will be explained in everyday language.  The service includes a number of modern and more classic hymns led by our music group.  You can join in or just listen.  This service is suitable for those who want to learn more about the message of the Christian Bible.

hworship.  The emphasis is on - well - worship!  Our God is great and we want to tell him so!  Our worship takes the form of singing, telling each other about what God has done for us recently, and an encouraging message from the Bible.

hSEEKER presentation.  This will use contemporary music, film, vox pops and other media to  explore a topical issue.  The presentation will end with an explanation of the Christian point of view on the issue.  Designed to  be totally non-threatening, this is intended to help you think more widely about yourself and the world you live in.  This meeting is suitable for those who want to find out more without necessarily committing.  These meetings are usually followed by a buffet lunch which we would love you to stay for so that we can get to know you better.

h"Ministry" day.  This is church jargon!  You could call it share, care and prayer.  We think about some of the situations that can worry us, either nationally, internationally or personally.  We hear evidence about how God cares about them, and we learn to pray to Him about them.

hSongs of Praise ~ a morning guaranteed to encourage you!  Guests are asked to bring their favourite song of praise and explain what it means to  them ~ then we sing it.  Don't worry, you won't be put on the spot, we only interview pre-arranged volunteers!

hYouth Service.  This is entirely designed and led by the youth for youth although everyone else always enjoys it too!

hCommunion Service.  During the service those who have accepted Jesus Christ into their lives remember that he died for them.  Bread is eaten, symbolising His body that was broken on the cross, and grape juice is drunk to symbolise the blood that He spilled for our sake.  A full explanation is given for why we do these things.  Anyone can come to this service and not feel obliged to take part.

hat home.  This is a chance to pop in any time you like between 11am and 2pm and stay for as long as you like!  There is no formal service at all, and most of the time is spent getting to know each other.  Every 20 minutes or so, there is an opportunity for 5 minutes or so to experience the sort of music, readings, talk, drama or film  that we enjoy most weeks.  That way you can get a feel of whether The Rock is for you.
