The Rock, Chalfont St Giles

We are a loud, huggable, bouncy and enthusiastic group of young people who see The Rock as part of our extended family.   We get to have our say in how the church is run so we make sure it's user friendly!  We help out a lot with the music and the techno stuff and sometimes we run the service.  One of us designed the logo - cool isn't it???

We get on well with the pastor, Ian.

He's on a diet at the moment

Impressively he won the 2008 Chalfont St Giles Pancake Race!  See the video on this link http://www.youtube.com/v/Ms8rbkOnjkE&rel=1

We are always keen to welcome new friends and to share our experience of Jesus Christ.

As the Bible says (Street Bible version)

"Come up close and personal with him, the living stone - which the builders chucked into the skip, but God lifted out saying "Priceless!"  Now you too are like living stones being cemented into place in the spiritual skyscraper God's constructing."

4th March

2006

  R O P E

For 24 hrs we held a sponsored famine.  This was to raise money to pay for food for children in Belarus attending a Christian youth camp.  While we were starving someone had the bright idea that we should sell cakes and sweets on the village green. Not funny!!

We made £500!

And these are the guys who went on the camp.  They had a great time.  Belarus was badly affected by fall-out from the Chernobyl nuclear disaster a few years ago so the kids need a bit of a break.

School holidays

On 3rd April 2006 we went camping to the New Forest in Dorset.  Highlights included a crabbing competition and a visit to Go Ape, a treetop adventure climb. Everyone was encouraged to take a Bible study and prayer time as well.

We went back to Go Ape in October 2007.  Pastor Ian likes it.  This year he got his leg stuck in the harness and had to be rescued.  Unfortunately there are no photos of this.

In the summer we always go to  camp at Soul Survivor - a big Christian event for young people. We went in 2005 ......

Some people found themselves .........

Others got lost .......

Some just got wet .....

But we had a great time.... but that was 2005!

Soul Survivor 2006.....

We found ourselves on the Soul Survivor website!

The item isn't there any more, but this rare photo of Vince survives here....!

What will happen this year...?????

On 24th March 2007 we celebrated Freedom Day by highlighting the Stop the Traffik campaign against modern day slavery and people trafficking.  We were handcuffed together on the village green!  Why is it always so freeeezing?  Anyway - 88  people signed our petition and we got publicity in the local paper - twice!

We also sold lots of Fair Trade goodies

We quite often get asked to help out in Rock meetings on a Sunday.  It's called volunteering.  Hmmm!

In October 2007 Ian taught about David and Goliath.  Basically the Philistine army was attacking the Israelites.  They had a giant on their side called Goliath and everyone was terrified of him.  He was disrespecting God and something had to be done about it but no one had the bottle. David was only a skinny young guy.  He said "I'll do it".  He was a shepherd and he was used to protecting his sheep from wild animals.  The king said "Here - take my armour" and gave him all sorts of kit that was far too big.

Yeeess!

Anyway, David realised that it was ridiculous to go into battle wearing trousers that were a trillion times too big - so he took it all off again and just prayed to God asking for protection and then went off to fight the giant just armed with his catapult.  And guess what?  HE WON!  Just goes to show what God can help us do if we ask him.

If you're curious and want more info - you only have to ask....
